MANUSCRIPT ASSESSMENT
Avocado Books will provide an expert, market-aware appraisal and help to writers at all levels.
We will give an honest, detailed and professional overview so writers can understand where they are doing well, what is working less well and why, and how to work a manuscript into the best possible shape.
Once you are happy with the overall structure and direction of your book and have it in a completed draft, we can move onto to providing copyediting and proofreading services.
COPYEDITING
Copyediting is an important process which looks at spelling, punctuation and grammar and seeks to improve the overall quality of the text.
Consistency, strengthening writing and corrections are the key objectives.
It can involve some rewrites or areas for an author to revisit.
Facts can be checked, especially if non-fiction and any possible legal issues such as libel and be addressed at this stage.
PROOF-READING
Proof-reading is also a vital part of the process and amounts to being a last look at the manuscript before it goes to 'press' or is uploaded onto a digital platform - ie published.
It is usually when the text has been 'set' into pages and is ready for print. Any final errors of spelling, punctuation or grammar can be checked again.
Also any formatting, capitalisation, italicisation and hypenation can be caught and corrected.
